So I have been in Maine for the last 2 weeks days, to see about the birth of a grandbaby (he is beautiful and amazing — and I am just bowled over by him! More about that sweetness later!), and there has been so much progress at the farm!
While the obvious thanks goes to our hardworking crew, my number one thanks goes to Brian John for holding down the fort so I could be part of the baby’s birth day. I could never have left the new construction progress without BJR stepping up to the task at hand — thanks for having my back, dear husbando.
The Road to Success is Under Construction
So, a little backtracking to get y’all up to speed.
The fellas had to notch out the original farm’s kitchen roof before being able to put up the trusses. Here’s a look at Adam and Aaron/Mookie hard at work.
It amazes me that the siding, while a bit raggedy in some places, is about 130 years old.
This farmhouse was built to outlast those that built it. It is my prayer that the same is true of our addition and restoration.
Uncle Joe came over and gave BJR a hand in opening up the wall.
Bit by bit, step by step
We saved all the original siding we could, as we will need it to do some patch work on the old exterior wall between the kitchen and wood room.
Good thing I am not a clean freak. I imagine that was a pretty dusty, grimy task. Thanks fellas.
While BJR and Uncle Joe conquered the wall, the crew got all the trusses in place and remaining OSB on.
Here are the trusses for the the mudroom in place… The west garage wall shows the garage doors that we are framing in for the time being, while we live in the garage.
And here are the garage trusses being placed.
BJR managed to get this picture, of the last truss being put in place, in the garage. (Good job, honey.)
I had no idea a truss could be so darn attractive. Once again, this process is teaching me to appreciate building on a whole new level. Once all the trusses are in place, it’s time to think about getting the roof on.
First thing tomorrow, I will get out and take some more picture, and continue to get this blog updated. That is, after I give all my thanks and praise to the big guy upstairs, from whom all blessings flow.
Thank you Lord for the continued progress on our DRF and everyone who is helping us make this our forever home.
Thank you Lord for a husband who encourages me, to be the momma, and now the Grammy Pammy, I long to be.
And thank you Lord, for a precious, 9 pound grandbaby boy. He is so fresh from heaven, Lord. Let me always be worthy of his love and adoration.
xoxo
